Help with a 5130 and stp
Hi all.
We have a fairly big layer 2 network with 2 HPE 5940 in irf as Core and STP is activated, root, with 2 instances
instance 0, all vlans exept 1 wich is our management vlan for the switches, that vlan has it own instance, 1.
We also got 2 HPE 5940´s in irf as distribution and they are set as secondary root. All other switches are HP procurve and Arubas.
Now i´m going to set a HPE 5130 as a distribution swith on one of our schools, it´s going to have a connection directly to the core and to end switches. The STP Global command is active from start so it should be fine, but when i connect the switch to our network i see in our IMC that it cannot ping the switches in our network and i PANIC, i disconnect the switch and everything is going up again.
Is it the spanning tree that calculates?
Why do i lose "ping" to the other switches, that doesn´t happend when we put in a new Aruba switch?
Is there anything i can do to prevent the the calculation IF it is that that couses the "ping drop"?

Am i assuming correct that Core and Dist switch are not root for instance 1, it is the STP that desides hwo will be the root?

Re: Help with a 5130 and stp
You say that this school has a direct connection to the core and end switches. Does that mean a layer 2 connection, ie. no routing?
What does the 'display stp root' command say on the core and dist switches? What is the STP config on the school distribution switch?

Re: Help with a 5130 and stp
Thanks for the respond.
Yes, it´s layer 2 all the way. The core does the inter vlan routing.
<CORE>display stp root
MST ID Root Bridge ID ExtPathCost IntPathCost Root Port
0 0.40b9-3cb4-ad0e 0 0
1 32768.40b9-3cb4-ad0e 0 0
And the Distribution
<STH-SRV-DIST>display stp root
MST ID Root Bridge ID ExtPathCost IntPathCost Root Port
0 0.40b9-3cb4-ad0e 1 0 HGE1/0/54
1 32768.40b9-3cb4-bbc0 0 0
The stp config on the school dist switch is just:
stp Global enable
So it shows only:
<EKS--SW01>disp stp root
MST ID Root Bridge ID ExtPathCost IntPathCost Root Port
0 32768.943f-c2a3-60ee 0 0
I don´t want to connect this switch to the network, if i can avoid it until i´ve sorted this out, because i know we have a couple of radio links that goes down when i connect it and i have to drive to the site and restart it.

Re: Help with a 5130 and stp
Don´t know what the problem was, but it has been sorted.
Wiped the switch and began from scratch, did a sw update and shut of the STP. Tried to connect it and it was working fine. Started the STP and no "hick up". Finished the configuration and now it works.
