Howto firmwareupdate a comware switch
Been doing lots of procurve updates... but I am a bit confused about the comware switches in many ways. Right now I am focused on how to upgrade the switch - and I do not understand the difference in ipe og bin.
I found this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIc88CEnpks
But when I am downloading 5130EI_7.10.R3115P08.zip (which I take a latest firmware), there are only one bin (5130ei-cmw710-packet-capture-r3115p08.bin) and then there is a ipe (5130EI-CMW710-R3115P08.ipe). It looks as the format on my switch is different than on the switch on the Youtube video.
On my switch, "display version" gives me:
HPE Comware Software, Version 7.1.045, Release 3111P02

I would prefer to update via ssh and tftp. What is the correct approach in my case?
Thanks, Lars.

Re: Howto firmwareupdate a comware switch
Hello
You need to download the ipe file, this contains your bin files.
If you are using a tftp server use following command in your switch:
tftp <ipaddress> get <full .ipe file name>
this will donwload the file in the switch his flash,.
After that extract the file like this:
boot-loader file flash:/<the .ipe file name> slot all main
After this you will see that the bin files will be extracted, and after a reboot you should be good to go.
You can check before the reboot, if the correct file as been installed when you do:
Display boot-loader
Kind regards

Re: Howto firmwareupdate a comware switch
I worked great except I could not use "all" so I used "1" instead.
Now a dir looks like this:
Directory of flash:
0 -rw- 8928256 Aug 08 2008 20:00:00 5130ei-cmw710-boot-r3109p05.bin

Can I delete the old bins?
Thanks, Lars.

Re: Howto firmwareupdate a comware switch
Hello
Yes, the number 1 is your slot number, if you would have more then 1 switch in a stack, you could use all.
If you don't want them in your flash anymore you can use following command:
delete /unreserved flash:/<file name>
Kind regards
