IRF 4 member ISSU

Hi,

We have a 4 member IRF (5940AF 48XGT-6QSFP+) connected in a ring fashion and we are in the process of proceeding with an ISSU upgrade. I have read these two posts which are exactly what I need to do:

https://community.arubanetworks.com/blogs/esupport1/2019/05/09/how-to-perform-in-service-software-upgrade-issu-on-fixed-ports-switches-which-are-in-irf-stack

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=kc0131240en_us&docLocale=en_US

However I have read some other threads and posts on which they all say ISSU on Comware does not work pretty well.

Does anybody has a positive experience with ISSU and IRF? If with a 4 member IRF even better.

Thanks!

Re: IRF 4 member ISSU

Hello,
ISSU upgrade works perfectly for 4 members in IRF rings if proper procedure followed by users.

What is your current and targeted version?

Thanks!

Re: IRF 4 member ISSU

Hello,

You are good to go for an ISSU upgrade from 2510P02 to 2612P08. This version is compatible.

Please refer ISSU compatibility list from release notes of 2612P08.

Re: IRF 4 member ISSU

Hi akg7,

I know you have already clarified this, however I recently opened a case with TAC in order to validate the ISSU upgrade described in this post and they stated that ISSU is not recommended since it has caused issues (infinite reboot on the slave member after switchover command, this is caused by an incompatible fimrware detection). I requested an official statement however they said their email could be used as one. Do you know of any restriction on using ISSU internally? As per the L2 engineer the recommendation of not using ISSU was given by an L3 engineer.

Re: IRF 4 member ISSU

Hi,

The PN is JH394A, we have 4 of those in a IRF ring topology. The current version is R2510P02 and we are planning to upgrade to R2612P06 as this is the "recommended version" for the 5940 as per HPE documentation.

If downtime is not the issue then it is always recommended to upgrade via normal process.

Thanks!
