adding drives to a compaq 5i RAID array on a proliant server
I just bought 2 more 15kRPM 18.2GB hard drives for one of my ProLiant DL380 G2 servers. I'm not incredibly savvy on SCSI RAID controllers so my question is probably relativly simple to most of you. Is there any way I can add these drives into an existing array (RAID 0) and upgrade to RAID 5 without losing data and having to reformat? I also have an older ProLiant ML370 with one hard drive. I want to add another identical drive so I can mirror it. Is it possible to do that without data loss as well? Thanks a lot for the advice!

Re: adding drives to a compaq 5i RAID array on a proliant server
1) DL380G2: just pop those babies in the drive cage and run ACU (Array Configuration Utility, could be web-based) to expand your existing Array or create a new one.
Remember that you end up with free disk space for the OS i.e. a new drive letter.
No reformatting or whatever is necessary BUT always take a backup.
2) ML370: I guess you have this drive attached to the embedded SCSI controller so no hardware RAID here and no mirroring except within the OS.

A Proliant a day keeps the competition away!
