EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Hello,

HP documentation is unclear how to actually shutdown EVA4400 in proper manner. At least, I do not understand. Is there somebody here who can write down few steps for proper shutdown? I have initiated shutdown from CV and apperently controllers are off but disks are still working. Should I power them off by power button or wait ?

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

If you have chosen the "System Shutdown" option, they should have powered off.
According to the EVA4400 user guide:

The shutdown process performs the following functions in the indicated order:
1. Flushes cache
2. Removes power from the controllers
3. Disables cache battery power
4. Removes power from the drive enclosures
5. Disconnects the system from HP Command View EVA

This can also be done from the Management module.

If the controller enclosure is off, you can power off the disk enclosures.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Do you have the latest firmware installed?

This can happen on firmwares XCS 09003000 and XCS 09004000.

Hello,

I upgraded it to latest version 09006000.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Interesting. I have not tried it with the latest XCS, but on all EVA-4400 I have shutdown I am _very_ sure the disk drive enclosures were powered off _before_ the controllers.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

That is initiating the shutdown from Command View or from the WOCP, Uwe?

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Command View. I am not sure I've written it down (forgive me - too lazy to check ;-), but I have a dim memory that the trainer who did the EVA-4400 NPI training last year even mentioned that change.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

To make it clear: I think I haven't done power down with new firmware. I will try tomorrow and I will post it here. But with previous firmware I am 100% sure that disk enclosure stays powered up.

and I was using WOCP ...

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Ah, I think that explains it...

You first wrote you shutdown via CV, but if you did not run with the latest XCS, you did not use CV on the WOCP - just the WOCP function.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

So what is then correct procedure/tool for shutdown ?

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

It can be shutdown from Command View or from the WOCP. From the WOCP, if the controllers have firmware 09004000 or 09003000, it does not power off the disk enclosures. This is a known issue and it's documented in HP.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Hello, now using WOCP can powerdown controllers and disk enclosures. However, I am expeirencing number of issues with WOCP. Actually it is not usable at all. Too slow, can't do anything on EVA4400. Again, do you have that kind of expeirence ? I am running CV 8.1 and latest firmware for EVA4400...

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Firmware 09006000 needs WOCP firmware 0001.0020 or 0001.1000.
Do you have them installed?
If yes, try to reset the onboard administrator, or reseat it.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

The management module, sorry.

I'm dealing with a c-Class blades case and had the OA on my mind.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

I think I have mmp-0001.1000-000117R on it. However I have to load it up with CV over FC to access it again. Is this version Ok to load ? I guess this is latest one?

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

That is the first version which includes CV-EVA and is fine - all previous versions did only include the WOCP functionality. As CV-EVA runs on port 2372, it has now moved to port 2373

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

WOCP is on 2373 but when I run CV from WOCP, it goes to 2372 port and I can't do anything with it ...

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

I have a dim memory that I've read somewhere the embedded forward button from CV to WOCP and/or WOCP to CV does not always work properly and one should directly browse to the address:port

what is latest version :-)?

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

Today, it is the first and latest one ;-)

We will see how future upgrades will work, but I'd guess it will work the same way like today. Upgrade through the WOCP menue on port 2373.

Re: EVA4400 shutdown procedure ?

thinking this is working Ok, we didn't purchase another server for this managment purpose nor we suggested to the customer since CV 8.1 doesn't work on Windows 2003 Standard Edition 64-bit per HP documentation. Is this really true ?
