EVA6000 with Command View v7.0

I just upgraded to Command View v7.0 and now have the ability to shrink a vdisk. Can this be done with a Windows Server 2003 volume? Is it data destructive?

Data shrinkage is really designed for future use. It will be supported by Longhorn, but won't work with W2K3.

You can shrink youre lun but it does not take care of youre partition.

In other words, be VERY careful ;-)

I did some testing with a temp vdisk. Definitely something you don't want to do with Windows Server 2003 if you want to keep the data!

Anticipating a question I'll surely have from my partners or customers... Besides Windows server 2008, what other operating systems support LUN shrinking?

I would actually be possible to shrink partition with spesialized tools as a manual step. (Partiton magic etc). Then do a lun shrink in CV EVA.

However I would not recomend it ;-)
