Re: MSA30 HHD fail
What controller are you using in the rp7420 ?
The MSA30 is just a disk shelf, it doesn't provide any RAID functionality...
The "INTERIM RECOVERY" message shows that things are running in a degraded state... Have you tried swapping the failed drives yet ?
Cheers,
Rob

Re: MSA30 HHD fail
The error shows that you have a degraded RAIDset, i.e. you have a failed drive in there. Are you able to access the data from configured LUNs?
You can find the SAUTIL help at
http://docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90072/ch04s05.html
and SACONFIG at
http://docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90040/ch05s02.html
REMEMBER !!! It can cause data lost if not used with caution, so just refrain yourself from any recovery action unless you are sure.

SolutionLOGICAL DRIVE 0
Logical Drive Status................ USING INTERIM RECOVERY MODE
2: 9 <-- NOT RESPONDING
All disks are model BD036659CC - spare 177986-001
Also, both batteries appear as failed
Cache Configuration Status.......... write cache temporarily disabled (code=1)
Battery Pack Count.................. 2
Battery Status (pack #1)............ FAILED
Battery Status (pack #2)............ FAILED
Smart Array has firmware 1.92, latest one is 2.84
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1132643&prodNameId=378439&swEnvOID=54&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ux-62567-1
There's a bug on firmware below 2.48 that makes the Smart Array show the batteries as failed, you should update firmware and see if they are reported correctly.
