Online spare? Impossible?

Compaq 6400R with Smart Array 431 controller.
4 drives, 3 RAID 5 with online spare. Array config was initially built from bare metal install. The online spare failed.

Using the HP Config Utility (6.30.11.0), I can't find anyway to add the new drive back as an online spare. Nor can I do it from the Option ROM tool (ver 1.61 I think) at boot.

Is there any way to re-config the spare?
