RA3000 error state clear

Hello
One disk failed in RA3000. Disk was in JBOD unit. I replaced the failed disk, recreated the unit and everything is working OK now. Problem is that alarm state is still on (light and sound). SWCC does not show any errors.
I can not remember how to reset error state. Can anyone remind me?
Thanks

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Vladimir,
best solution is probably to power-cycle the hardware.
This will also give you confirmation that everything was installed ok.

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Hello Peter
I know it would probably help. But I can not do it since it is also a production server attached to this storage.

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Vladimir,
if you have dual parallel controllers you could try to reset one controller at a time as a last resort.
On the back of the RA3000 there should be a mute alarm switch, this will stop you audible alarm, but use with caution.
I think the alarm system is controlled by the environmental monitor unit (EMU), which I think can be configured via serial access port.

Re: RA3000 error state clear

The alarm switch is switched to mute alarm (by me).
Not sure I can reset controllers one by one.
Is there a way how to reset the alarm via SWCC or terminal connection?

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Hi,

It is better to reset the controllers, one at time. What is the mode of operation of the controllers, is it active-active or active-passive(spare).

You don't need to worry, as the controller failover is automatic.

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Operation mode is active-passive.
I can reset controllers one by one, but is there another way to reset alarm?
Long time ago I crashed a system doing this (OK, that was a bug). Also did it few times with no problem.
That is why I prefer not to reset.
It is hard to beleive that this is the only way.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

The RA3000 is not a serious storage array. The writeback cache is not battery-backed - the whole array is running from an UPS. If you simply cut power, you can loose data!!!

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Hello Uwe
I know about UPS and no batery backup.
I also know that I have to shutdown (hosts and) storage before power cycle.
But is there another way?

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Vladimir,
I just wanted to warn in case you were not aware of this potential problem as I have a customer who trashed all his disks on an RA3000 that way. I'm sorry, but I have no idea how to clear this error.

Re: RA3000 error state clear

Hi,

I think better to proceed with, restting one controllers at a times, rather than powercycle and all.

First reset passive one, when it becomes online reset then active controller.
