VxVm and EVA again.
Checked the Support Matrix for VxVm 4.1. Could not find any EVA arrays supported.
In VxVm 3.5 there was support for EVA 3000/5000 (but not DMP) and I have seen something about that support for 4000/6000/8000 has been added (but still not listed in the support matrix for 3.5).
But, for VxVm 4.1, no EVA arrays.
What is the problem, why won't HP support EVA for VxVm ? Is EVA not a HP product ?

Check the following link for support and compatibility using the support.veritas.com link:

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
I am not sure with VxVM 4.1 but under VxVM 3.5 - all SecurePath (HSX) protected Arrays are supported. That includes all EVA line + HSG80 based arrays.
The EVA4/6/8K where SecurePath is oprtional I thought already supported VxVM DMP. I too noticed the EVA line disappeared from the VxVM 4.1 HCL. Have you asked HP/Veritas fo supportability issues?
BTW VxVM 4.1 will only be available on HP-UX 11i version 2 environments (11.23+). VxVM 3.5 will be the last and final version for HP-UX 11i version 1 (aka 11.11).

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
Cristian,
Yes, I know that VxVm is a Veritas (or Symantec) product but, you can buy it from HP as a HP product and a basic version is bundled in HP-UX. As I understand, VxVm is the prefered volume manager for HP-UX 11.23 but, LVM will be avialable for legacy reasons.
If this is true, it seems very strange to me that VxVm 4.1 lacks support for EVA disks.
Thats because my comment about "is EVA not a HP product". I sometimes got a feeling that HP and Compaq still is two different companys.

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
Veritas DMP support for EVA4K/6K/8K is planned, and was originally to be released this quarter... as it hasn't turned up yet I can only imagine that it will be available 'real soon now'.
But it is planned.

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
I do not think an Array Support Library will be needed or ever produced for the EVA line anyway as it is hghly virtualized already.

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
Any update on your search for EVA 3K/5K (Active/Active @ VCS 4.x) support under VxVM 3.5? You may want to check the following thread:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1108351
Also, Array Support Library (ASL) for EVA 4/6/8K for VxVM 3.5 is out but it is uncertain yer whether this ASL will work with EVA 3K/5K that are VCS 4.X (Active/Active)... Please see:
http://entkb.symantec.com/security/documentDisplay.do?gotoLink=0&docType=1000&contextId=25676:0.0&clusterName=Fusion&contentId=f29a2a9c-c551-4956-89cc-77ce6583868c&responseId=d8af2cbe5ed2bec0:1b1fbf4:1114c2aa4de:-54db&groupId=6&answerGroup=0&score=-1&page=http://docs/278428.htm&result=1&excerpt=Document+ID:+278428+http://support.veritas.com/docs/278428+E-Mail+this+document+to+a+colleague+VERITAS+E...
And let's push HP and Symantec to provide DMP support for upgraded EVA 3/5K. The A/A code for VCS 4.X I assume is the same as the A/A code that's on EVA 4/6/8K so coming up with an ASL should really not be that difficult.

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
I am in that rocky boat.
I searched Symantec and HP's web sites and could not find any refrence about A/A EVA (i.e. EVA4/6/8K) having an ASL (array support library) for VxVM 4.1 on HP-UX 11.23.
There is however an ASL for EVA4/6/8K for VxVM 3.5 on 11.11 but none for VxVM 4.X on 11.23.
I've yet to try if that version works under 11.23

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
I found VxVM 4.1 together with current array listed in the cluster matrix like this:
Disaster Tolerant Clusters Products Compatibility and Feature Matrix
(Metrocluster Continuous Access EVA) - May 2008
http://search.hp.com/redirect.html?type=REG&qt=vxvm+eva&url=http%3A//docs.hp.com/en/6192/DT-matrix-mceva.pdf%3Fjumpid%3Dreg_R1002_USEN&pos=8
But best hit:
http://search.hp.com/redirect.html?type=REG&qt=vxvm+eva&url=http%3A//docs.hp.com/en/5992-0542/5991-0542.pdf%3Fjumpid%3Dreg_R1002_USEN&pos=18
Hardware Support Matrix For VxFS 4.1 and VxVM 4.1 on HPUX
11i Version 3
lists EVA 4/5/6/8000.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: VxVm and EVA again.
Patches are required, I'd open a case to get info.
If you are asking about VxVM directly from Veritas, I don't know, our kits are from HP.
