Adding additional hard disk (need jumper settings)

I have a 8550c Pavilion and want to install another hard drive (Maxtor ide)and I need to know if I must change my jumper settings on the current drive in the HP now?
I want the current disk to be master, and the new Maxtor disk to be slave. I have the correct settings for the Maxtor.
Also....how do enter the Bio Setup on my Pavilion...not sure of this???

Thanks! Jim Pleasant

Re: Adding additional hard disk (need jumper settings)

Hi Jim,

Most of the time the first disk that came with the system is already set to master. So you should not have to change the jumper setting on that. However if reuired, you should be able to find the jumper detail on the top of the disk.

Most of the hp systems use F2 ket to enter setup. The actual key to enter into setup is displayed on the sceen when the system completes the memory test and other BIOS subsystem tests.

Hope this helps.

If you have any doubts about the settings, the drive manufacturers keep the manuals on the web in .pdf format.
