Compaq service partition

Hi.

I bought a new HP 146GB Ultra320 Hot Plug SCSI Hard Drive, and when I inserted it into a server, through fdisk I saw that there alreary is a partition called "Compaq service partition" or so. What is this for a partition? Can I delete it without worrying?

Thanks for answer. I killed it. But what was on this partition? Some diagnostic tools or something else?
