Firmware for disk drives
Yesterday (Sunday) we installed 2 new SCSI cards and hooked up 26 hard drives.
Last night Predictive had these warnings:
=======================
WARNING(RC) - 11:14 PM, 04/21/02 - Pdev 1/4/0/0.9.0:OEM(810V)
Firmware must be HPM4 or above: Suppressed 2 months.:
U020.The Product Revision Number is:-->HPM2<--,
and has a Prod Id of:-->ST34371W <--:U020.
WARNING(RC) - 11:14 PM, 04/21/02 - Pdev 1/4/0/0.2.0:OEM(820V)
Firmware must be HP09 or above: Suppressed 2 months.:
U020.The Product Revision Number is:-->HP06<--,
and has a Prod Id of:-->ST19171W <--:U020.
=======================
A total of 10 warnings for these 2 drive models. 9 for ST34371W and 1 for ST19171W
There are other drives of these models one the system. I would like to bring all 26 drives up to the same firmware level before I start using them. I have just plugged them in for now.
How do I find out what firmware version of other drives?
Where do I get the firmware?
How do I go about updating the firmware?
Or do I just exchange them for other drives?
Marty

Re: Firmware for disk drives
Marty,
You can do an. From that perform a . That will show you the drive ID and firmware revision for each disk.
HP can upgrade the disk firmware for you. Each disk must be indiviually upgraded. Last I knew, HP is the only one with the upgrade tape and should be done via DIAGNOSTICS. The system will need to be down for this operation.
HTH,
Dave

Re: Firmware for disk drives
The latest firmware level is HP15 for all the Segate Drives. You find out your Rev and give it to HP. They will upgrade the Rev.
But before doing all these things take a full backup. Today morning I was doing the same thing and found that after the power recycle , some other drive refuse to came back up. So be careful.

Re: Firmware for disk drives
Thanks for the reminder about the backup first.
I have HP scheduled to come in this weekend.
Thanks for your help,
Marty
