Help!!! Please!! Start up / hardrive prob.
I have just added a second hard drive to my HP Pavillion 8260.
everything went correctly (I think). I did everything the installation disk
told me to do, formatted it and everything already and copied the old one to
the new one. Then when I restarted my computer it started loading as usual,
just a little slow, but it went from the regular Windows 98 loading screen
to a DOS screen (not unusual either) but then it just stop loading. It never
finishes. I dont know if this means anything but at the top of the dos
screen while its loading it says a lot of things I have seen when it used to
work, but it also says at the very top right under that little _ that
blinks, EMM386 Active....
I just installed a Maxtor 20gb Hardrive....i went to MS Help Troubleshot in
safe mode followed the directions and did a procedure that helped me start
in normal mode....
I went to the system/Device Menu and disabled all my drivers and shut down,
restarted, enabled one driver at a time and restarted and so on untill i
figured out were the problem was.....Well it would always restard pretty
normal untill i enabled the Hard Disk Controllers....so I disabled them
again and restarted in normal to send this message....
Like a said, my computer now loads ALMOST NORMAL, becuase the screen
resolution is terrible, and most of the sys tray icons dont load....PLEASE
HELP
thanks in advance

Re: Help!!! Please!! Start up / hardrive prob.
Hello,
I think your problem is that the harddisk controller drivers are corrupted. You should have 3 hard disk controller drivers; Primary IDE controller, Secondary IDE controller, and another one by Maxtor. Try to update the controller drivers by clicking on driver tab and update driver button. Give the Windows 98 CD.
Also, enter Maxtor's website http://www.maxtor.com and go to the download section for help.
HTH,
Vince
