scsi jumper settings

hi! i am replacing a hd (model c2490-69365) and i need to know it's scsi id. i can't seem to find any tech info on this drive, so i'm at a loss. is there any way i can make sense of the jumpers on the c2490's circuit board?

many thanks!

Re: scsi jumper settings

I believe this version of the C2490 should be a single-ended drive. If so, there should be one bank of jumpers on the bottom (or top?) of the drive below the SCSI connector. This bank has 16 pairs of pins with numbered 1-16, with the 16th pair on the end closest to the power connector. Note that pairs 5 and 8 are removed (keyed).

Now, if that is the case, then you can just short pairs 1-3 to select the SCSI address, according to the binary sequence:

P3 P2 P1
SCSI 0 = open open open
SCSI 1 = open open shorted
SCSI 2 = open shorted open
SCSI 3 = open shorted shorted
SCSI 4 = shorted open open
SCSI 5 = shorted open shorted
SCSI 6 = shorted shorted open
SCSI 7 = shorted shorted shorted

Hope this helps...

Re: scsi jumper settings

OK, so that was my first response in one of these forums. Just to make sure, be aware that the lists of jumper settings in my previous post are ordered as in

It looked right to me when I was typing it, but not when I went back and read it :-)

Re: scsi jumper settings

Hi. I'm holding the manual in front of me. If you will grab the drive and hold it so you can see the back with the DC at the left bottom and the SCSI connector at the right bottom we can start.

There are 16 sets of jumpers.
1111111987654321
6543210

The C2490AM is single ended and has 3 jumpers for SCSI addresses. 1, 2 & 3 are these. Jumper 1 has the values 0 and 1
jumper 2 has the values 2 and 0
jumper 3 has the values 4 and 0

DO NOT SET THE ADDRESS TO 7 UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! THIS IS THE ADDRESS OF THE SCSI CONTROLLER ITSELF AND CHOOSING THIS ADDRESS WILL CAUSE THE MACHINE TO REFUSE TO BOOT, YOUR HAIR TO FALL OUT AND YOUR AUTO INSURANCE TO BE CANCELLED!

If this is a C2490 Fast Wide Differential drive (not a square 50 pin connector) then jumper 4 is

jumper 4 has the values 8 and 0

As the previous poster said, add these up to the address you want.

Industry standard values

6 = boot drive
2 = CD-ROM drive
0 = tape drive

You may use ODE from your Support disk (the command is RUN MAPPER once inside ODE) if you have trouble determining SCSI Id's. This is the tool your CE uses when debugging things
