SCSI type compatibility

Hi,

Can an Ultra SCSI 3 disk (Seagate ST318437LC)
go on the same SCSI bus (c720 GSC built-in Fast/Wide SCSI Interface) as an Ultra SCSI Wide disk (SEAGATE ST19171W)?

Will there be SCSI resets?

Thanks,
Steve

Re: SCSI type compatibility

Hi,

No..! It won't be possible to use a Ultra3 SCSI Disk on FWD SCSI Bus.

Re: SCSI type compatibility

OK so the next question is, how can I make use of these 3 Ultra SCSI 3 disks I have?

I have 2 standard K570 servers with 1 internal Ultra Wide SCSI each on the forementioned bus.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi,

see this link to all the info regarding these disks.
Also the installation manual might help you out.

Re: SCSI type compatibility

Thx, thats where I get my info from also, but I need to know what to do with them specifically in the HP world.

Basically I have 2 K570s, 2 K260s, 1 K360, and 1 C240 and I want to make use of these 3 disks I have been given.

Re: SCSI type compatibility

You have several options with your Seagate Ultra-160 SCSI drives:

1. Connect to any Single Ended Narrow bus using an appropriate 68 to 50 SCSI cable. Low performance, but it will work.

2. Using a Fast-Wide-Diff to LVD SCSI converter, you can connect the drives to any of your HP F/W/D SCSI buses. Moderate performance, fairly universal application among your systems.

3. Install an Ultra-2 or Ultra-160 SCSI controller in your system. This will work on your systems with empty PCI slots, and provide visibly faster performance than any of the other options.

I would strongly recommend #3. The cost of such an interface board is not very high, and is fairly comparable to the F/W/D converter of #2.
