split-bus enclousure

What's split-bus configuration of disk enclousure? Does it allow to manage one enclousure as 2 independent groups of disks?

Thanks

Re: split-bus enclousure

carlos,

Indeed it does. Generally alternative disks are on separate buses. There will be toggle switches at the back of the array, which, when set, will activate the separate buses etc.

And then, I can attach 2 independent hosts each access only one group ?

Thanks

Re: split-bus enclousure

Hi Carlos,

A split bus enclosure basically splits an enclosure into 2 halves, generally half the disks will be on one path & the other half on another path & will require 2 host connections to the enclosure to see/manage all disks.

So answer to your question yes you can manage 1 enclosure as 2 groups of disks down 2/4 separate paths.

Re: split-bus enclousure

Carlos,

I see you are probably still trying to attach a mix of HP-UX and other hosts to the same storage box.

Bear in mind that a split bus applies to the MSA30, which seats behind the MSA1000 (I assume you have one reading your previous posts). You connect the MSA30 wia two SCSI buses to the MSA1000, which still acts as a SINGLE storage box to outside world.

Hence, again - no option for hooking up a HP-UX box with non-HP-UX boxes to the same MSA1000 at the same bus.

Rgds.

Re: split-bus enclousure

Omit the last 'at the same bus' - doesn't make sense & could be confusing.
