Upgrading laptop hard drive...

I am upgrading the memory and hard drive on my old Compaq LTE 5300 laptop. I bought an IBM DLGA-23080 2.1GB hard drive. The manufacturer???s site shows it as a replacement drive for notebooks and the Compaq LTE 5000 series is one of the models that it lists. However, it has different mounting screw locations than my current caddie. My old drive has a flexible ribbon connecting the drive to the caddie plug and it doesn't "appear" that the ribbon connector comes off of the drive ??? at least not with my [so far] gentle tugging. The IBM drive has male pins at the connector end but no cable that goes between it and the caddie.

Does anyone know if I am just not pulling hard enough on the ribbon cable of it is not intended to come off. Also, where would I find a different caddie that has the right mounting screw locations?

You need to contact IBM, as they are the ones that provide support for their products. Compaq doesn???t sell spare caddies, only the drive or the drive with caddy.
