3Par system wipe
Hi
I'm considering doing a factory reset on an old 3PAR 8450 (running 3.3.1) so it can be re-deployed from scratch.
From the serial console there are two options that will be this:
6. Set up the system to wipe and rerun ootb
8. Perform a deinstallation
What is the difference and why would one option be used instead of the other??
Many thanks in advance

Re: 3Par system wipe
Hello @CadenLange,
Option 6 - Factory reset of the system
Option 8 - Must be an 'undo' of the last installed patch without affecting the data.

Re: 3Par system wipe
Hi CadenLange,
Below is the procedure to set the system to factory default.
Connect to Serial Console port 6 or 8
You will see the 3PAR Console Menu.
1. Out Of The Box Procedure
2. Re-enter network configuration
3. Update the CBIOS
4. Enable or disable CLI error injections
5. Perform a Node-to-Node rescue
6. Set up the system to wipe and rerun ootb
7. Cancel a wipe
8. Perform a deinstallation
9. Update the system for recently added hardware (admithw)
10. Check system health (checkhealth)
11. Finish SP-to-Node rescue procedure
12. Exit
To answer your question, wiping the system will only remove the data from the drives but not the system configurations.
Deinstallation removes all the configuration made on the system.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Satish

Re: 3Par system wipe
Be careful, Deinstallation also removes the Licensing.
So safe before with showlicense -raw
