Command View eva

Tried to setup EVA3000, however could not do so even before initializing the system. When browse to command view eva, the page was not displayed by instead I get this error.

HTTP Status 404, not found

What could be wrong? I can see the storage system under "uninitialized" including all its disk enclosures and disks on the left pane, but only got the HTTP Status 404 on the right pane.

Attached a screen shot of it so it could be clearer for all to see what the issue is.

Please help n thanks

Re: Command View eva

Have you changed the password for the system management agents? The one you are asked for at:

https://sma-address:2381/

Have you tried restarting the CV-EVA [Settings > Manage Tools] or even rebooting your Storage Management Appliance?

Re: Command View eva

On second thoughts:

what firmware version is the EVA-3000 at? VCS V3.010 requires CV-EVA version 3.1, but that is no longer distributed with the management applicance. It is distributed in the 'Storage Operations Manager' (SOM) package.

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/som/index.html

If you don't have CV-EVA V3.1, then I guess you can stop trying and power off your EVA as you need to get hold of SOM first.

Re: Command View eva

Hi,
Have you entered the WWid and the Checksum for the HSV's?

Re: Command View eva

Have entered the WWN and CheckSum, otherwise I could not even see the StorageSystem in the discovery.

So does it mean that we do not need to have Command View anymore after SOM ?

Thanks

Re: Command View eva

No, OSM does not replace CV-EVA. CV-EVA Version 3.1 is no longer supplied with the Storage Management Appliance. It is now bundled together with the Storage Node Manager in OSM.

If you don't have SOM, please check the URL I gave you and/or ask your supplier for help.

Re: Command View eva

Where can I find the SOM Package? we have the SOM v1.0 1TB LTU envelope with the order number and password request form. But where to get the software? or, how could we get hold of CV 3.1? Currently only running CV3.0

Re: Command View eva

You need to order the 'HP OpenView Storage Operations Manager V1.0 Media and Documentation Kit', T2538AA. It contains a CD-ROM with CV-EVA V3.1.

Don't panic about the price as this includes the HP installation and start-up services.

Re: Command View eva

Any evaluation copy to download before we purchase?

Re: Command View eva

I am afraid not as you need CV-EVA anyway if you have an EVA storage array. Perhaps you can make an 'unbureaucratic deal' with your supplier or HP and they can provide you with a copy of CV-EVA V3.1 before the normal delivery of SOM takes place. You don't need Storage Node Manager to initialize your EVA.

Re: Command View eva

found the Media and Doc for SOM v1. However, with the CV v3.1 CD, after running setup, it nothing happens. What could be wrong? Tried restarting the SMA, but still the same.

Re: Command View eva

Don't run setup directly from the CD. You have to install it via browser. Put the CD in the appliance, then open IE. Under Settings -> Maintenance -> Install Software, follow the prompts.
Check also that the Appliance is running Software 2.1 (CV-EVA 3.1 needs it). Check under Help in the web-interface.

Re: Command View eva

The appliance software that came with it is 2.0, so is the one in the restore CD, is 2.1 sold seprately?

Please advise.

Re: Command View eva

If this was me, I would beat up my HP sales rep, and the local Field service folks to get the Q#@$&*@& correct matching software! (We did. We made it their problem. They fixed it!)

The SAN appliance and licences are necessary to make the &@#*&*)@ EVA work. If the HP shipping department ships you a V2.0 Appliance, and a V3.0 EVA. ITS THERE FAULT!!! THEY MESSED IT UP, MAKE THEM FIX IT!

Just because shipping has fifty-leven copies of they old 2.0 laying around doesn't mean that they can't ship the correct version to you.

This has been a longtime complaint of mine when ordering hardware from Compaq. They never get the same support CD's as what was pre-installed on the systems.

Re: Command View eva

The problem is that those boxes get assembled quite some time before they are delivered - we often see that things do not get out FIFO. Often these boxes are sent through a distributor (not every customer is being delivered directly by HP) who works as a buffer (I doubt that SMAs are produced 'Built To Order') which adds to the delay.

To be able to cope with such situations I have ordered a restore CD from the following web page in advance:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/sanworks/softwaredrivers/managementappliance/index.html

Now, I understand that it is not helpful in this situation. If you are the end-user, then your are eligible for the installation and startup service, which is included with the product. While the SMA installation is not included in EVA + SOM installation + startup you can ask your service provider anyway if he is willing to help.
