MSA1000--Controller Failover Test

Hi Guys

I am testing a new MSA 1000 fully redundant, when I pull the active controller there is no failover and the ACU is reportng an error as well as on the second controller display "Hardwrae failure".
Is there any special config to perform on the MSA prior to support the failover??

Regards.

Re: MSA1000--Controller Failover Test

Dual HBA with Securepath software should be installed to have a fully redundant configuration if your setup is fully redundant you should check that Securepath firmare and agents are compatable with MSA1000 array.

Re: MSA1000--Controller Failover Test

this is a real problem, same with the 1500 (which uses 1000 controllers) if u pull out the crontroller it does not fail and gives a hardware error (spoke to a HP MSA person and he recomented not doing it), it would be good if there was a testing tool to simulate it.

it does not give me great faith that pulling out a physical unit does not produce a failover of controllers????

Re: MSA1000--Controller Failover Test

A valid test to test failovers is to pull the fibre cable from the HBA or the switch. Don't pull the controller while its live as that does not simulate a failed controller. Better chance that way of causing a bus related issue. The MSA 1000 controller is hot swappable, however it needs to be in a failed state before you pull it. The other way to test failover is to use Secure Path and fail over the LUN from the primary to standby controller.

Re: MSA1000--Controller Failover Test

Hi

Thanks Guys for your help, I already tested the failover functionailty by polling out the fiber cable and it's OK.But as many of you know the customer want to simulate a reall caontroller failover, anyway thanks a lot.
