multipath problem

Hi
We are installing MSA1500cs.The

storage system is configured for

multipathing.I used array

configuration utility and configured

the logical drives.I did the ssp for

the desired host & assigned the same

loical drives to both the wwids.

On the server side ( host).
I had installed the qlogic

drivers,installed the MSA DSM mpio

full feature. when i go to disk

management the disks are

automatically detected but i see 2

disks when it promts to convert to

dynamic... and fails there if i

continue without converting or even

if i select one disk and continue.

I have one degrade situation on

storage shelf..one of the fan box0

has failed but fan box1 is ok.could

this be the reason for this problem

in multipath configuration?

pls advice.

Re: multipath problem

What firmware is on the MSA? If you have the older Active/Passive software, you need to use a basic MPIO DSM, not the Full Feature one.

Re: multipath problem

Why should you use dynamic on a MSA1500cs or is this a typo and should it be Basic?

Re: multipath problem

Dynamic vs. Basic is more person preference and/or application requirement rather than a Storage Subsystem Requirement.

For regular standalone Windows servers, dynamic and basic disks are ok. For clustered Windows Servers, you need to use basic.

Re: multipath problem

From a storage view.
What is the benefit of using Dynamic disks if the storage on the backend is using ADG Raid5 or RAID10.
and most application restrictions will you find in the dynamic disk section.
