RSS disk distribution
We purchased our EVA4000 with 14 disks, so our first two RSS were 8 disks and 6 disks. We’ve since added additional and removed disks. Now I have 24 disks in a single disk group. My RSS are 6 disks, 8 disks, and 10 disks. When I removed some of the additional disks, I did one at a time and always let the EVA finish leveling before removing the next disk. I assume there is an algorithm that decides the best way to reestablish RSS disk assignments. It just seems odd that it didn’t set them up as 8, 8, and 8. Should I remove two of the physical disks in the RSS with 10 drives and then add them back hoping they are added to the RSS with only 6 disks?

Re: RSS disk distribution
Hi,
If you have enough capacity you can ungroup only one disk at a time from the RSS with 10 physical disks. And then the second disk from the 10 disks RSS. and then you can regroup it back, maybe :-) the RSS algorithm will saturate the 6 members to eight. This is the first hope to be done.

Re: RSS disk distribution
Maybe you are lucky and it works, but I think there is an equal or greater chance that you could have just wasted some time. If there really were code in the firmware that could optimize RSS layouts, it had so many chances...
I am not your boss, but, honestly, I think you should do something else ;-)

Re: RSS disk distribution
Hi,
the main pitty is here that you have only 4 enclosures so even if you have nice 8 physical disks in a RSS group, you have always 2 disks from the same RSS in one enclosure :-(
