DNS Server

Is it necessary to configure the DNS server to allow forward and reverse lookups for hosts and managers?

The "Application URL" specified during manager installation also proceeded without any issues by specifying the IP address. It seems there is nothing else that cannot be done even if you do not set up host and manager records on the DNS server.

From reading the documentation, is DNS name resolution only necessary to access the VM Essentials appliance and the Internet?

In other words, is it my understanding that HPE Morpheus VM Essentials does not require DNS name resolution, but rather recommends it because it is necessary in cases like the one above and can be useful in other cases as well?

It seems that IP addresses can be used for application URLs, so I thought that DNS might not be necessary in cases where access to the Internet is not required.

Re: DNS Server

Accessing the internet is necessary if you want to retrieve packages, but DNS is not required for HPE Morpheus VM Essentials.

Is this understanding correct?

Re: DNS Server

It works without name resolution.  It's always a best practice to setup forward/reverse DNS.

It's highly recommended (and I don't even know if it works without) if you want to add your vcenter to the config.

Re: DNS Server

Greetings all,

If HPE VME Manager Works without name resolution then why does it keep refusing to connect with IP Address that was defined during the initial setup?

Please assist

Re: DNS Server

Are you unable to connect to the “Application URL” specified during the manager installation?

Could you please provide details about what you were doing, what screen appeared, or what error message was displayed?

Re: DNS Server

When migrating VMs from vCenter and ESXi using the migration tool, the migration appears to fail if the names of vCenter or ESXi cannot be resolved.
※Confirmed during testing with version 8.0.9.

Die obige Antwort enthält folgende Angaben zur Migration von VMware.

Es wird dringend empfohlen (und ich weiß nicht einmal, ob es ohne funktioniert), wenn Sie Ihr vCenter zur Konfiguration hinzufügen möchten.

Re: DNS Server

Re: DNS Server

Hello

If ping responses are definitely returning from the manager, please try checking the following:

・Client proxy settings
・Log in to the Manager VM to check each service and restart services
※Connect via ssh or from the host using virsh console <manage-vm>.
※For checking and restarting services, the following commands may be helpful. You can view help with -h.

        morpheus-ctl status
        morpheus-ctl stop
        morpheus-ctl start
