Dynamic Placement and Placement Strategy

In the cluster settings, there is Dynamic Placement, and you can choose from the following three options:

・Select
・Off
・On

In the compute settings (Management Placement), you can choose from the following three options:

・Select
・Auto
・Failover
・Pinned

Are the above two settings related?

I can't find any manuals about these settings, so please let me know.

*This is a machine translation, so I apologize if it's difficult to understand.

Re: Dynamic Placement and Placement Strategy

Hi Dya,

to answer on the 2 questions:

"In the cluster settings, there is Dynamic Placement, and you can choose from the following three options:

・Select
・Off
・On"
Used for enable the DRS to move VMs across the cluster. Before the 8.0.6 it wasn't controllable, with the 8.0.6 you can now disable or enable the DRS per cluster.

"In the compute settings (Management Placement), you can choose from the following three options:

・Select
・Auto
・Failover
・Pinned"
Used for the particular VM what to happen to her against the DRS or the current action. For example in auto, the DRS will move the VMs across all ubuntu hosts in the cluster, Pinned nail the VM on the particular host where the VM is currently residing and DRS will NOT move the VM somewhere else. Failover is if the host is back VM will be moved back to the prev. host in case of availability back.
