Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

Here's an HPE video that shows how to connect Veeam backup today. https://www.hpe.com/h22228/video-gallery/us/en/v100006920/hpe-morpheus-vm-essentials-software---using-veeam-agents-for-protection/video/

Note that Veeam and HPE announced in June that there would be image-based backup support but that work is not complete yet by Veeam. I expect that will happen in the December/January timeframe but it is Veeam that is doing that work to integrate with the libvirt APIs.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

Hi Calvin,

Any news on "I expect that will happen in the December/January timeframe but it is Veeam that is doing that work to integrate with the libvirt APIs. " ?

We already have VME running o 8.0.9, but I already checked thar the veeam integration is only available for 8.0.11, can you confirm?

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

Hi,

It now seems more likely that this will be in H1 2026 rather than December/January.

Really??  that bad news for us...

It's just being a true pain to manage in between.

Migration tools is just so terrible to use... to many flaws...

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

I believe HPE and Veeam are actively working on this integration.

The main challenge seems to be that migration involves VM format conversion, which adds additional complexity to the implementation.

Perhaps we may have updates during HPE Tech Jam in Orlando. If the information is not under CDA, I will share what I learn here.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

My understanding is that it's in Veeam's hands. The beta is over and they had a few things to do before releasing their code for the image-based backup with VM Essentials. I think it's any day now.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

@acores1979 I think that since the beta started on Dec 1 it would be fair to expect that they will support 8.0.11 and beyond but I'll ask for what the official answer is. I think there might have been changes with VM Essentials that were requested by Veeam so I think it's safe to say you'll need to update from 8.0.9. I'll let you know when I hear from the team.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

@CalvinZito so from your reply, it's safe to day that I should migrate to 8.0.11, regardless if my solution is a PCBE?

@acores1979 I'm hearing that as a result of changes we made to support Veeam, Essentials v8.0.13 is going to be required.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

HPE Morpheus plugin for Veeam is live.

This allows snapshot/image based backups. It also allows for Veeam recovery/migration to HPE VME.  Make sure you are on 8.0.13+ and the agents are updated.

I have issues with backup at the moment and Veeam are looking into the logs. Only testing at this stage.

I have tested a recovery from VMWare to VME, machine worked fine afterwards on VME, requires usual storage driver changes to SATA then back to VirtIO once drivers are loaded. Migration was pretty quick this way, direct from Veeam Repo to VME Host.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

Hello Everyone,

I've integrate VEEAM on HPE VME (demo-lab) - It's a test env.

Prerequisites used :

  • VEEAM Backup Enterprise Manager (v13) instead of VEEAM Backup & Replication alone
  • HPE VME v8.1.0
  • Tested with HPE Hardware and Thirdparty Hardware

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

Are you able to have Veeam be a backup provider for KVM? I can only select it for ESXi workloads.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

Verify the version of Veeam backup and Replication, in 13.0.1 under inventory you should see options for Nutanix, Proxmox and oVirt KVM.. you have to run a Plug-in installer to get access to HPE VM in that screen to add it.

If you don't see that on your Inventory list then you may need to upgrade your version of Veeam.

Re: How to intergrate Veeam?

My VBR is fine, I can run backups on esx and on hvm.

But in Morpheus/VME Manager you can define a backup provider in the cloud properties (after you added it in Backup-Integrations). This allows you to choose Veeam as backup policy/provider when you provision workloads. The option is only available for VMware, not for HVM.

It might be connected to the fact that Morpheus->Veeam integration is via Veeam Enterprise Manager API. I was wondering if there isn't an updated plugin that solves this issue before I fallback on Veeam Powershell.
