Lookie, lookie, HPE Morpheus VM Essentials v8.0.8 is out and it's a doozy!

W00t, w00t!!! v8.0.8 is here and it's a jam packed release. You can read what's new in the release notes. Note that the previous release notes were on MorpheusData.com but we've moved them to the HPE Support Center. You probably need to log-in to your HPE account to see these documents in the HPE Support Center. Here's a link to everything VM Essentials in the HPE Software Center. Here are some of the highlights from the release notes:

New Feature

Alletra MP Storage Plugin - HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 Datastore Plugin now supports Fibre Channel protocol along with iSCSI
API & CLI
  • Additional attributes are now shown when listing datastores via HPE Morpheus Enterprise API
  • When querying the API for host details, some details about the parent Instance (such as the ID) are now included
  • The hardwareCpuFrequency attribute is now returned as part of the GET host API payload
Aruba CX Plugin
  • Added support for up to four switch pairs
  • Newly-created VLANs are automatically added to existing LAG interfaces defined on the switches
    HVM
    • The HVM ISO package is available through My HPE Software Center along with other downloadable packages for HPE Morpheus Enterprise. HVM ISO contains Ubuntu 24.04 minimal along with kvm, ceph, and hpe-vm cli preinstalled. Boot and install blank hardware from this ISO to easily stand up HVM Hosts
    • Improved cleanup when removing a host using GFS2 from an HVM Cluster
    • Subtenant Users can now create OVS PortGroup Networks for HVM Clusters when the Cluster has been shared with their Tenant
    • Added a bulk migration tool for moving VMs from VMware Clouds to HVM Clusters (emphasis added)
    • Added storage type selection at provision time for HVM Instances. Select from thin, thick lazy zeroed, or thick eager zeroed provisioning
    • Added PROVISION POWERED OFF configuration for HVM Instances. When selected, Instance will pause at the Finalizing phase and will not complete the initial boot until initiated by the User
    SimpliVity
    • Added banner notifications to the UI to differentiate between SimpliVity controller VMs as opposed to other guest VMs. When attempting to stop such VMs, a warning is also given that other associated Apps or Instances would no longer be able to reach it
    • Certain VMs pinned to HVM Hosts can now be configured to automatically start when the HVM Host is powered on to cover scenarios where other VMs may fail to start if booted first

There is also a list of appliance and API updates, and a list of known issues so be sure to check it out to get all the details!

    Hello,

I'm deploying VME on a non-HPE cluster as a POC.  will the appliance work or do I need to install Ubuntu v24.04.x, kvm, ceph.io & hpe-vm?

I HIGHLY recommend you post your question as a new thread as the folks who are watching the boards are watching the top layer threads.

That said, if you post your new thread, I'd suggest clarifying what you mean by a "non-HPE cluster". The KVM based VM requires Ubuntu regardless of what the underlying hardware is. We are rapidly expanding the list of what we support but if you want to see what that list is, here's a link to the Compatibility Matrix: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sd00006472en_us&docLocale=en_US&page=GUID-EA7C0803-E66B-4B17-B994-30D4025A258F.html

Further, on the main HPE Morpheus VM Essentials hpe.com page, there's a tab at the top that says Resources. Here's a link to that: https://www.hpe.com/us/en/morpheus-vm-essentials-software/resources.html. You'll see a series of 3 videos that walk through the process. If those don't answer your question, absolutely feel free to post a thread with your questions or issues you're having.

It looks like the HVM installer file is no longer available. It was up for a day or so. Any idea where it went?
