V 9.0.0 release

Hi All,

Could anyone guide me on where I can find information about what's new in V9.0?

I can't find any release notes (page error), upgrade paths (8.1.2 latest), or other related documentation on the HPE portal.

Thanks.

Re: V 9.0.0 release

Any changes to the install / upgrade process with 9.0.0?  I will be upgrading from 8.1.2 and plan on the same steps as all the other 8.x updates.  Thanks.

Re: V 9.0.0 release

Downloaded all the files but don't see the "supplemental" .deb file.  Looks like something has changed.

Thank you! Yesterday, there was an error message on this page, but it seems to be working now.

Any updated upgrade guide? I also don't see the supplemental .deb file?

Re: V 9.0.0 release

I opened a case with Support and asked them the following questions:

GFS2 Clustering Services in Pacemaker:
- Yes, there is a notable change in V9.0.0. The GFS2 clustering services have been removed from Pacemaker in version 9.0.0. This is part of the streamlined architecture in the new release.

Other Major Changes in V9.0.0:
There are several key changes in V9.0.0:
- GFS2/Pacemaker: GFS2 clustering services removed from Pacemaker
- Performance: VM provisioning and host onboarding are significantly faster
- Payload Size: Reduced payload size and install size for faster deployment

In-Place Upgrade from 8.1.2 to 9.0.0:
- Yes, you can perform an in-place upgrade from 8.1.2 to 9.0.0 directly.

The upgrade remains a standard three-command process on the VME Manager virtual machine:
- sudo morpheus-ctl stop morpheus-ui
- sudo dpkg -i xxxx.deb
- sudo morpheus-ctl reconfigure

What to Look Out For:
1. Backup First: Ensure you have a backup before upgrading, as recommended for all major version upgrades
2. Test Environment: Consider testing the upgrade in a non-production environment first

I am now running 9.0.0 with no issues.  The HVM agent updates all completed successfully.

Re: V 9.0.0 release

Did you get an answer about supplemental package? We noticed the same thing about the available files. (Currently running 8.1.2)

Thanks,

Re: V 9.0.0 release

Hello,

As of version 9.0.0, supplemental packages are no longer needed.  The installer will contain the supplemental packages and replace previously installed supplemental packages from previous versions.

Hope that helps!

Re: V 9.0.0 release

I did receive a few emails from Support and I should have added this one earlier:

For HPE Morpheus VM Essentials v9.0.0, the upgrade process has changed. The regular .deb package is the primary file required for the upgrade, and the supplemental.deb package is not always needed. The supplemental package is generally required only in offline or isolated environments, where the manager cannot access the package source directly.
If your environment has internet access and the upgrade is being performed using the standard online method, downloading and applying the main .deb package is sufficient. In that case, the supplemental package is not required.
Your previous upgrades from 8.0.4 to 8.1.2, where only two .deb files were applied, were consistent with earlier behavior. With v9.0.0, the packaging and upgrade flow have been streamlined, which is why you may now see five files listed, but not necessarily need the supplemental package in all scenarios.

Re: V 9.0.0 release

Since the download portal also provides HPE_HVM_Upgrade_Bundle_9.0.0_S5Q83-11079.zip, there appears to be an upgrade package available as well.

Can both methods be used for upgrading to v9.0.0 (the standard .deb package and the upgrade bundle)?

Re: V 9.0.0 release

For other users who runs into the same issue. Keep in mind this .deb.file is only available for licensed environments, not for trial licenses. Took me some time to  figure that out.

You are correct, if you are running the trial version.
