Windows Server 2022 / 2025
Hi, in the deployment guide the part of preparing a Windows Server Image is quite not informative. I've a question regarding the storage controller that offers best performance and resilliency. Should I use
a. SCSI VirtIO
or
b. VirtIO Block
This results in OS / Datadisks either beeing on SCSI 0:0 or VIRTIO 0:0 - what is Best Practice here. And how can I remove the CD / DVD drives from the VM?

Re: Windows Server 2022 / 2025
Hello!
I think scsi virtio is much better, virtio-blk is a legasy option.
Also you can remove cd-rom in reconfiguration menu at actions in vm instance

Re: Windows Server 2022 / 2025
Hi,
thanks for reply, but why is VIRTIO 0:0 selected by default if legacy. I have no option to delete CD ROM device on Instance or VM

Re: Windows Server 2022 / 2025
Is vm powered on? try on stopped vm, maybe you can't change configuration on turned on machine.
Virtio-blk is not quite a legasy (i judged hastily), it simplier driver for virtualisation, so it fine if you don't have bunch of disks or cluster volumes for your vm.

Re: Windows Server 2022 / 2025
Yes the VM / Instance is powered off, no chance to remove it
Yeah so if its "simplier", I guess SCSI VirtIO is the better option over all?

Re: Windows Server 2022 / 2025
About the CD-ROM, there's no way to remove it today, some issues arose in an older version and the option to delete it was hidden.
