SUT Issues

Is the SUT tool becoming a depracated product? I am having consent issues on most of my DL380 Gen 10 servers trying to upgrade to the latest 2023.09.00 SPP. Most of my Gen10 servers are currently on various 2022 firmware dates. So the firmware is not really that old per se. I have also tried many different SUT versions as well. Most servers are using the 4.2 or the 4.5 version of the SUT utility.

Most of my issues are one of these:

  • The Security validation failed for component : occurs when I launch the SUT tool. I have no ideal how to get around this issue. This occurs on many different versions of SUT.
  • Make sure you use a valid, signed flash file and try again when attempting to apply the Server Platform Services (SPS) firmware through the iLO interface. (Since SUT is not working, I am using the iLo to apply many of the Firmware upgrades)

  • On some servers, where the SUT utility does not produce the Secuirty Validation, Oneview will state the SUT status as Installing....It will sit at the INSTALLING state for like 7 or 8 hours or so. Surely it is not installing all the components over such a large time frame. Eventually it will state Install Failed. Then I will reboot the server and watch the boot process via iLo and then the RESTFUL Firmware Update Manager will error out trying to apply a update that was initiated from the SUT process.

This occured on Oneview version 8.5, and now 8.7 it is still occuring.

Thoughts on any of the issues I mention? We don't have the resources to open an HPe case for every single firmware upgrade on our 200+ servers.

Re: SUT Issues

No, SUT is not a deprecated tool. You didn't mention what OS you trying to use SUT within. However, I would suggest you open a support case to help examine why SUT isn't working for you. The forums here shouldn't be used as a replacement process to getting technical support.

Re: SUT Issues

@ChrisLynch

Hello Chris, So the OS is Win2k19 GUI.  I did create a case (5380473191) just after my initial post here in the OV forums. The tech provided me to very useful links to troubleshoot all types of various SUT error messages.

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00060273en_us&docLocale=en_US#N100D0

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00028342en_us&docLocale=en_US

The engineer indicated this below:

"We see the issue is caused due to the missing root and CA certificates in the system. To resolve this issue, perform the following steps and retry the update"

In one of the 2 links above, it indicates to download two different certs. I was able to download the RootCA cert and install it on one of my problematic servers. However, I was not able to download that 2nd cert as the link took me to some web site without allowing me to download the suggested cert. So with the said, I am trying to understand the functionality with SUT and these new certs. Can you elaborate on the SUT process with certs?

Should I proactively install this new ROOT CA cert on all of my existing servers and new servers that we deploy going forward?

Thanks Chris! Looking for a guidance here...

Re: SUT Issues

Hey Chris,

I don't use the forum as a replacement process. It is hit or miss if you get a support technician with bonfide SUT experience. Regardless, I opened a case (5380473191) on 3/07/24 about this issue, and it is still not resolved. The technicain actually send me links to "What is SUT" and SUT videos. The technicains, more often than not, do NOT seem to really read and digest the issue that I have provide detailed information abut. So, I hit the forums as needed.

Regarding the "validation failed on this component" issue, I was provided with a link to install two Root Certficiates to help resolve the issue.. However, the 2nd link in the URL below does not work, and HPe support has taken over a week to provide some direction:

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00060273en_us&docLocale=en_US#N100D0

I was hoping to get some feedback from the Forums.

Thoughts Chris?

Thanks in advance..
