Server Shutdown

We have 20 LH 3000r servers. Our room computer room is connected to a huge UPS.

Last night one of our servers shut down. It didn't reboot but shut down. We checked the event log and it only had an error about the "previous system shut down was unexpected." There wasn't any other information in the event logs to indicate a problem.

We checked Instant Top Tools and it was not reporting any hardware problems. The server has redundant power supplies and fans.

I would appreciate any suggestions on troubleshooting this matter.

Re: Server Shutdown

Make sure Automatic server reboot isn't enabled. this may lead to a blue screen with info that will help. Also, you can run diags on the server to test the hardware. Irecommend running the diags application more than once, as memory errors are hard to find on one run. You can find the latest diags here:

Re: Server Shutdown

I'm having the exact same problem. I tried to follow the link that Theo posted but it did not work; leaving me with no answers. The server shutdowns have progressively become more frequent with no real indications as to why. I will be running diagnostics tomorrow. I am leaning toward a power supply problem but really have no idea at this point. If you have anything that may lead me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated

Re: Server Shutdown

I have E60 for over 3 years now. Have similar problem, server shutdown unexpectedly. This happened twice in last six days. No overheated parts found in box. Problem is not related with UPS or powerchute software. No events found in NOS logs. NOS is NW5SP5.
After shutdown, server couldn't switched on again for 30 secs aprox.
I am suspecting at powersupply unit but also could be a motherboeard.
Any expereance?

Re: Server Shutdown

I have a windows 2000 adv server on it. The first time server works good, but at one day the server was restarted unexpected. And i think this happend then I copy some files from one directory to another on this server or search some files or backup it. I think may be it's a problem with scsi driver.
