Daily Performance Metric Data missing
Hello Folks,
when checking the daily simplivity performance metric on cluster-level, i only can see them 24hours back:
Selecting another day back, the chart is empty:
Please correct me, but i am pretty sure this is not normal, and was not broken in the past. Maybe since we installed the Update to Version 4.1.1 U1 but i dont know excactly. 1 Week and 1 month is working as expected.
Any Ideas?
Regards
Peter

Re: Daily Performance Metric Data missing
Hello @ICPMuenchen,
The issue must be with the performance sample collection. Daily report requires the most granular level of sample collection. If the sample data is not available for the time range you selected, the metric looks empty. Please check the sample data availability beyond 24hrs.
You may find this document useful (Pg.55, pt.7) - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00099035en_us&docLocale=en_US

Re: Daily Performance Metric Data missing
Hello @sbhat09
thanks, but this is not really helpful to be honest.
As you can see in the 2nd screenshot i tried to select a different day, but it shows no data at all. it seems only the last 24Hours logged.
Is there a way to restart the sample data collection, or check if the it is broken?
Thx.
Peter

Re: Daily Performance Metric Data missing
Hello @ICPMuenchen,
The system uses granular sample collection for 1 min, 1 hour, or 1 day metrics.
The system uses broader sample collection to show weekly, monthly, or yearly performance metrics.
The system is retaining the expected 'granular level of sample collection' only for 'more than 24 but lesser than 48 hours' from the current time. When you try the next day, again the system deletes previous granular samplings and keeps only the last 24 > 48 hours of granular performance data. So, at any point of time, when you select 1 day performance metric, you can only see it for last 24 hours slot and not beyond that.
The cause for the issue is the system is retaining the broader samplings for a longer period and automatically deleting the older (24 > 48 hrs) granular samplings. When there is expected sampling is not available, the metric looks empty.
I think increasing the retention period of granular sampling may fix the issue.

Of Course i understood what you wrote in the first answer, because this is the same i was explaining. and of course if there is no data the chart is empty. but there is no info performance data is only available the last 24 hours in the 1day view.
And this must be new, because i am pretty sure i was able to see data beyond 24hours when extending the slider on top of the chart in daily view. Especially when checking a weekend e.g. a chart with more than 24 hours data is very helpful. Hence it seems the retention period must have been changed recently.
how can i change the retention period for the 1day view, to last e.g. 2 days or 3 days?
Thx.

Re: Daily Performance Metric Data missing
Hello @ICPMuenchen,
You may find those GUI options in Infosight. If you have not registered your system in Infosight, please register and check it. (Currently, I don't have Infosight access to provide exact steps)

Re: Daily Performance Metric Data missing
Didnt find any settings regarding this in infosight. Doenst also make any sense to me. Performance metric data should be stored local in vCenter/OVC/Simplivity because infosight registering is optional and not mandatory.

Re: Daily Performance Metric Data missing
What is the present auto-refresh interval (top right corner of the metrics screen) selected?

Re: Daily Performance Metric Data missing
15 sec is the standard interval.
I am not sure about here onwards. Request anyone else who know about this for assistance. Else you can report to HPE support.
