recommendations for manually installing esxi patches via cli
Hey,
are there any recommendations how to manually install esxi patches manually via CLI on an omnistack host? Or is it just setting host in maintenance mode and use esxcli software vib update for the patch?
While deploying our new cluster, we mistakenly selected image based setting in lifecycle manager, hence we are not able to install updates the old way via baselines anymore
thx a lot in advance.
Regards
Peter

Re: recommendations for manually installing esxi patches via cli
Hi Peter,
Good day.
The process of installing the ESXi still remains the same if used via the CLI method where the commands would be esxcli software vib update, however if you are doing a major upgrade from 6,7 to 7, then it would be esxcli software profile update and the same command would hold good, if you are doing the minor update from 7.0 to 7.0U3 or so.
For the ESXi images itself, i would recommend you to look into the Interop Guide of SimpliVity:
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00117319en_us&docLocale=en_US
On this above link, all the supported versions of ESXi is mentioned that SimpliVity supports according to the OVC version.
And for the file itself, i would recommend you to contact the SimpliVity support team to help you with the file, since the standard Vmware ESXi or even the customized HPE image of ESXi, would not be a recommended file to use on SimpliVity.
Finally, there is the SimpliVity upgrade manager too that you can use, in order to get the ESXi upgraded:
