Simplivity Federation re deployment

Hi Everyone.

I have an issue right now with our simplivity federation I would like to ask your advise on this. thank you in advance

Here's the details:

Our vCenter  isntalled in server 2016 was accidentally reformated by one my colleague unfortunately we don't have any backup of it that's why I decided to reintall the vCenter on the same device. I make it the same with the previous one.

I install everything needed. Simplivity deployment manager. vCenter, and also arbiter on the same device and it now working host/nodes are already added to the vCenter. However looks like the simplivity federation won't work if I added it manually.

Here's the error message in vCenter: HPE SimpliVity Plug-in cannot complete the task because it cannot contact the HPE OmniStack virtual controller.

Another problem is that I can't login to the Omnistack virtual controller. svtcli is also not working I am really not sure what is the password used for the svtcli.

Now my question is. is it possible to deploy again the node using simplivity deployment manager without erasing or losing its current configuration?

is there anyone can help me with this?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Simplivity Federation re deployment

Hi @Jun_04

This error may be because the Simplivity Plug-in that allows us to manage the Nodes in vSphere has lost communication with the Omnistack Virtual Controllers.

Deployment Manager will not fix the issue with the plugin. It is likely due to the IDs changing from the removal and re-add to vCenter inventory.

You need to update the OmniStack controllers with the new vCenter information. I would suggest running this command on all OVCs, one at a time:

To get root access, execute these commands:

sudo su
source /var/tmp/build/bin/appsetup

Then run:
dsv-update-vcenter --server <IP address of new vCenter Server> --user <vsphere administrator with domain> --password <vsphere admin password>

Have in mind that this command requires rebooting the Omnistack controller. You may need to plan for a maintenance window.

Once the 1st OVC has rebooted, verify that all of the VMs are HA compliant using the svt-vm-show command before proceeding to the next node.
If that does not restore the functionality, I suggest contacting HPE Support and opening a support ticket to identify and fix the issue.

Please note, the password used for the svtcli is set when the node is getting deployed and customers decide what value to enter.

Re: Simplivity Federation re deployment

Hi @Sanika

Appreciate your response but unfortunately I can't login to the OVC I don't know the password of the svtcli the engineer that was managing this before is now resigned. I actually contacted him and give me a passowrd to try but not working.

My question now is. can i saw the password set using CLI? I asked this because We have another simplivity on the other site and I can login on to that OVC using administrator@vsphere.local however using svtcli is also not working. I am thinking if there is a command to show the current password?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Simplivity Federation re deployment

Hi Jun_04

Have you tried changing the password?
Are you facing any errors about the OVC Password change?
If you are getting any errors, you may want to watch the video, which will help resolve and reset it.

Re: Simplivity Federation re deployment

Hi @Mahesh202,

Appreciate your response. however my problem is that I cannot login on the OVC itself. administrator@vsphere.local is not working same as the svtcli account. the previous engineer who manage this don't know the passowrd. is there anyway i can reset it?

Re: Simplivity Federation re deployment

Hi Jun_04

I understand that both the accounts SVTCLI and OVC are not working at the moment, and I would request that you get in touch with HPE SimpliVity tech support and seek assistance with resetting them since this requires expert guidance to be done with SVTCLI and OVC.

Regards
Mahesh
