simplivity future?
Hi,
HPE killed some good products and they have acquired over years some others like Simplivity? I am still trying to figure out what HPE is trying to do with Simplivity in HCI market. It is overpriced, dependable on Vmware and I do think they will kill it soon.
Anybody with some more info?
Reason for asking I have been pressured by some folks to review their offering. I did it twice and I really don't see why should anybody pay price tag HPE is attaching to it.

Re: simplivity future?
In our scenario simplivity was much cheaper compared to nutanix or vxrail e. g. With simplivity we are able to make a stretched cluster with only two hosts/nodes. All other systems need three hosts per side. In summary six against two. This is a lot, regarding, administration, maintenance, licensing, backup, etc.
In the past 4 years we never had any big issues or outages. There also had been times we didn't log in to vcenter for weeks. Our system is running, running running...
If we had to choose again, we would always go with simplivity and I only can recommend it to others. It fits perfectly in our use case.
Maybe your use case is different and an other system would fit better for you than a simplivity system, but without knowing any details, recommendations are very difficult.
And Prices are always negotiable

Re: simplivity future?
it is simple overpriced. You may had use case where it fits best (2-node clusters, streched) but for rest of use cases it is simple overpriced. Also, other HCI solutions are overpriced for what they offer. They were marketed like something which will take out storage out but that didn't happen. Reason: cost.

Re: simplivity future?
Hi imadam
In my opinion the will not stop with simplivity.
there are evne projects running to get it for example into oneview so you can start with software defined infrastrucure...well they are not ready yet but you see some progress there. why would u do this effort if you would stop it?
regarding prices...we compared it a few times. if you have to use backup / storage / and hypervisor you end up in a much higher price....of course depending on what you are searching for....you don't want to bluild a 8 node cluster with SVT...that's just not the meaning of it...but for smaller sites or maybe brach offices where you can't go serverless...why not.....
cheers
