Hi All,

Can anyone provide a step-by-step installation guide document or videos for HPE SimpliVity?
Should the ESXi and vCenter be installed before deploying the Simplivity manager?

Hi Sanika,

Thank you for providing the helpful documents. I just want to confirm, now that vCenter is a virtual appliance, do we need to install ESXi first before installing vCenter on that host? And then use the deployment manager to install and configure the federation cluster?

Could we install the arbiter on one of the ESXi hosts?

Here are the Prerequisites for Deploying an HPE SimpliVity Node

1. https://myenterpriselicense.hpe.com/cwp-ui/software (Go to myenterpriselicense.hpe.com) Login using the HPE Passport account credentials.
2. Click “Software” on the left-hand side, and Search for the product “SimpliVity”.
3. Then search for the recommended HPE SimpliVity OmniStack software version and select Get Downloads from the dropdown.
4. Select the checkbox of the required package and click “Download”.
5. This may take several minutes to complete.
6. Click on the downloaded file and select “show in folder”.
7. Here, you see the HPE SimpliVity deploy package which has all the files required for the deployment.
8. Extract the package to a location you can access.
9. Double-click on the extracted folder.
10. Here, you see the list of software required for the deployment.
    Note:  Each file in the package includes a SHA256 file to confirm its integrity.
11. Do not install the HPE OmniStack, VMware ESXi installation packages, and HPE SimpliVity Plug-in for vSphere software. Only download them.
12. You may install HPE SimpliVity Plug-in before you deploy hosts to check the status of the cluster as you deploy hosts.
13. The software includes a deploy installer USB image (IMG) file that you may use only while you experience issues deploying the host and need to try for redeployment.
14. The software includes a deploy installer USB image (IMG) file that may be used for deploying a new host or redeployment of a host while you experience issues deploying the host.
15. Installing the HPE SimpliVity Deployment Manager helps configure and deploy HPE OmniStack hosts in an existing cluster and a new federation.
16. You may install the Arbiter if you deploy two HPE OmniStack Hosts. It is also required for all clusters with two HPE OmniStack Hosts, all stretched cluster configurations, and non-stretched cluster configurations with four HPE OmniStack Hosts.
17. Download the Java runtime version 8 and Microsoft.Net. Please refer to the interoperability guide for the supported versions of Java and Microsoft.Net.

After this, the next process is to deploy the node, Please watch the video on HPE SimpliVity node deployment.

Could you please help me correct the details below for deploying SimpliVity?

1. Download all software needed.
2. Upgrade Firmware if necessary
3. Install ESXi Host
4. Install vCenter on the host and create a federation cluster
5. Install Simplivity plugins
6. deploy federation using the deployment manager

You must have a vCenter running before deploying SimpliVity nodes. Also, install the SimpliVity plugin on that vCenter and install an arbiter if your federation size requires it (see the deployment guide for Arbiter requirements).  

You do not install ESXi separately, the whole process of installation is managed by the HPE SimpliVity Deployment Manager, this will take care of installing ESXi and the OmniStack software.
