There are two possible causes for the write-protect (WP) condition being reported:
- The write-protect notch on the tape cartridge, located on the front side near the barcode label, may be set to the locked position.
- The write-protect detection mechanism within the tape drive may be malfunctioning.
In most cases, it is unlikely that the tape cartridge itself is write-protected. We recommend verifying that the WP notch is in the unlocked position. If the cartridge is not write-protected and the issue persists across multiple tapes, the tape drive should be inspected further, as the write-protect sensing mechanism may require attention.
