How install Windows Server 2008 on bl860c with Itanium CPU
Hi all. Emerged problem installing Windows Server 2008 on bl860c with itanium CPU.
According to the manual, the process of instalation should be in GUI, but i didnt see it. The installation stops whithout any mistakes. What should i do next?

Re: How install Windows Server 2008 on bl860c with Itanium CPU
Hi Roman,
what is the installation media that you are using ? Is this a HP supplied reinstall DVD or do you use the Microsoft retail install CD/DVD ?
If you use the HP reinstall DVD, it uses a automated process that puts an image on the disks, this is the most complete(has all drivers, hotfixes and utilities etc) and quickest way of installing the OS.
If you use the Microsoft media, then first download the SmartSetup .ISO image and boot the blade server from that one, it will guide you through the installation.
The image can be downloaded from here :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=3709945&prodSeriesId=3331044&prodNameId=3351095&swEnvOID=4023&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-ead40e9cf8114a6fb1b6f2c02c
On the cd there is a document that explains the installation process step by step, have a look in \contents\docs\en_us\ and look for the install guide.
The install process is not necesarely in the GUI mode, it can be done via the SAC channel that the Winpe pre-boot environment starts.
All Integrity baldes like bl860c however do have the Ilo advanced license, so you should be able to view the install process in GUI mode if you open the Integrated Remote Console (IRC) in your iLO browser session.
If that does not work, you could verify by placing a monitor on the SUV cable that you can connect to the front of the blade, it is normally never needed but this could be used to verify and troubleshoot what is wrong.
The default console output of the Integrity servers and blades can be changed at EFI shell in the boot menu option called "
Boot options maintenance menu", then choose
"Select active console output devices"
And it should look like this for both serial and VGA output :
EFI Boot Maintenance Manager ver 2.00 [14.62]
Select the Console Output Device(s)
Acpi(HWP0002,PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|2)/Uart(9600 N81)/VenMsg(PcAnsi)
Acpi(HWP0002,PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|2)/Uart(9600 N81)/VenMsg(Vt100)
* Acpi(HWP0002,PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|2)/Uart(9600 N81)/VenMsg(Vt100+)
Acpi(HWP0002,PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|2)/Uart(9600 N81)/VenMsg(VtUtf8)
* Acpi(HWP0002,PNP0A03,0)/Pci(4|0)
Save Settings to NVRAM
Exit
Or go to the EFI shell and use the "conconfig" command, do help conconfig for more details on the usage.
