Now we have a HP L2000. Is its CPU RISC? What kind of impact will the next generation server become Itanium 2? Is there HP prodution with Itanium 2? What applicatoin can run on it?

Hi again,

Your L2000 has PA-Risc cpu's. The current HPUX version for PA-Risc cpu's is 11.i (11.11). For Itanium cpu's there is a new HP-UX version 11.i version 2 (11.23).

Basically you could run every application on the new hp-ux version as long as it is supported/compiled for itanium 2.

Hi Eric,

your L2000 has PA-RISC CPUs. Itanium2 has EPIC architecture. HP has full line of Itanium2 servers (HP Integrity), see:

HP Integrity servers run not only HP-UX, but OpenVMS, Linux and Windows also.

On HP Integrity servers with HP-UX you call run almost all PA-RISC applications via Aries dynamic translator (built in HP-UX) and applications compiled/optimized for Itanium2.
