problem with rx7620 re-installation

I have rx7620 server and after I re-partitioned, the root disk can't boot. I plan to re-install from scratch , but at at MP, it still shows partition 0, can I delete the configuration? Also at EFI shell, cdrom path doesn't exist(I tried search all and map -r, no help).

Hi Shirley,

More information on how many cells were in partition and what you did later would help.

Did you perform a "reset for reconfiguration" after re-partitioning?

shutdown -R

is the command, if I remember.

How many cells are in the partition now?

MP :cm>cp

would help. What is the vfp status?

I have two cells and 1 partition. I need to setup two partitions so I tried to use partition manager to remove cell 1 from partition 0(partition stated possible error and never finished), then I use shutdown -R command and my boot disk can't boot with no-lvm root disk error.

Here is the info you need:

Hi Shirley,

It does seem that your partition 0 has cell0 only. But rx7620 has cell1 as the core cell.

In other words, do you have 2 MP cards? Only then can you use this system as a 2 partition system. In case you have only 1 MP card, then only cell1 can be core cell - boot enabled.

I hope the data you have can be scratched.

You can restore the previous partition information from MP and try to boot the system.

MP:cm> cc

this will give you 2 options. One will be a genesis partition, the second option will be to restore previous partition information.

Select the option to restore previous partition info. Then check with the

MP:cm> cp

Now partition 0 should have 2 "**" indicating both the cell are in the partition. At this condition boot your system and check.

If any problem, post the message immediately. I am awaiting your update (its midnight here in Dubai)

I ran cc command and it failed with:
MP:CM> cc

L - Restore Last complex profile

Hi Shirley,

You have to keep the cells in BIB, before running this command, sorry I forgot to mention this.

to put the cell in BIB,

MP:CM>rr

once you give this command for partition 0, it will restart partition and will come to Boot is Blocked (BIB). Watch this state at the VFP. then perform the "CC" action.

1) Is the system new? can it be scratched, if required?
2) how many MP cards and hard disks are in the system?

now when I cp it shows:

but when I issue bo command it came back to EFI shell and complain: Load of HP-UX Primary Boot: 1/0/0/3/0.6.0 failed: Not Found and at EFI shell, I ran: search all and map -r returns none.

I manaually moved the hard drive to cell 0 and I can find boot, but still it failed with: Non-lvm root on LVM disk

I do have two MP cards installed and I can start the re-installation from scratch. The only worry is that I can't find the CDROM at efi shell for the new installation.

Hi Shirley,

Do not move the disks. Let them be at the original slots. When you modified the partition through parmodify what error did you get?

To boot from the CD, You can add a boot option and specify the CDROM path in that.

what is the output of

map

at EFI?

Since you say it is new, create a genesis partition with partition 0 on cell1.

Then start your OS installation. Post the output of "map" command.

If I keep the disk at the original slot,at EFI level it can't find the disk, here is an output after I ran search all;

I do have boot from cdrom option and if I selected it, I got:

Hi,

Check the power status of the I/O card cage. use

MP:CM>ps

to check this. similarly check the power status of both the cells, and the IO card cage. If any of them is powered off, try to power them on through

MP:CM> PE

You have to see the disks+CDdrive to proceed further.

If power status is ok and still you have this problem, then it is time to call your HP CE.

RIO cable connection physical location : PCI Domain 1

VRM #9 OVER TEMP ALARM

is not a good sign. Can you get the call put to HP. A CE can verify this.

Your SL and FPL logs will provide more details on this. Check if any of the component is shown as "failing" or "failed" at PS for the cell board.

What does the PS on cell0 show?

I am going to disconnect in few minutes.

You can post the update once the above message is verified by CE.

After I powered on this server again, the cell 1 is still in same status with VRM #9 OVER TEMP ALARM. I wonder if any command can reset or clear VRM status?

Hi Shirley,

AS I indicated yesterday, it is time to call your HP CE. This problem will not go off if you kept it powered down and then on. The VRM may be faulty.

If you want me to look at it, you can capture the SL and fpl logs and post it. But it is time to call your local support to fix this issue.
