upgrading vs adding additional RAID controller

Currently have a Smart Array 221 controller running a RAID 5 w/hotspare. The crux of my issue is I want to install an additional backplane on the server with raid support. I have a Smart Array 5300 card that isn't installed.
Should I install this as an additional raid controller or upgrade the 221 to the 5300?

Compaq ML530
4x9.1gb U220 +1 hotspare RAID 5
want to add 4x18gb U320 RAID additional w/hotspare
