Expanding volume (disk space) after adding SFF SAS hard disk

Hi Everyone,

I am having two Pools (Volume) consisting of 6 performance SSD SFF SAS disk of 800gb each (Spare 841505-001 Model N9X96A) and 13 SFF SAS Hard Disks of 900gb each (Spare 873371-001 Model Q1H47A).

Now I want to add 2 more SSD SFF SAS disks to existing storage. Once I add this, how do I expand my storage on Vol001?

We have RAID5 (1 spare).

Thank you.

Re: Expanding volume (disk space) after adding SFF SAS hard disk

Hi,

I believe that you are referring to Virtual Pools and not linear vdisk.
MSA 2040 supports both virtual pools and linear vdisk.
MSA 2050 supports only virtual pools.
You cannot expand a RAID 5 disk group in a virtual pool.
You could add a new RAID 1 disk group (using 2 X SSD disks) to the Pool to add more space.

To modify a volume
1. In the Volumes topic, select a volume in the volumes table.
2. Select Action > Modify Volume. The Modify Volume panel opens.
3. In the Expand By field, enter the size by which to expand the volume.
4. Click OK.

Note: Please ensure that new disk group is added to the Pool which owns the Vol001 volume.
