Adding hard drive to LH3

Here goes: OS is Netware 5.1
Current config: 4 9GB drives set up as Logical Drive 0, Array 0 Total disk space is seen as 27GB give or take. Raid 5 . I need to add space to my Volume Sys:.

I've added the hard drive and when I look at the drive via the onboard (Ctrl M) configuration utility it says it's ready. However I cannot bring it online unless I configure it. When I go to configure it the only option allowed me is to configure the drive as Raid 0, Logical drive 1, A1 or Array 1, and either span or not span Arrays. Just looking at that suggest it won't work. Two different logical drives with 2 seperate arrays, with level 5 and level 0 Raid. (With one drive, hmmmmm)

Also I checked the virtual sizing. It's disabled with a check next to it. (as the manual suggest it should be)

Can I add this drive to the current array or keep it seperate. (Remember I using Netware 5.1 (It needs to see unused space) and how? Do I need to use the Navigator CD?

Help...

Thanks,

Ray

Re: Adding hard drive to LH3

Ray,

you can add the 5-th drive to the 4 disk raid5 array and expand the raid capacity, then grow you SYS: volume (adding another segment to SYS if i remember well, it's long ago). You cannot just bring it ONLINE since it needs to be associated with a existing array before it gets ONLINE.

If you install the Netraid Assistant NLM on your server and configure it like explained in the manual ,you then should be able to remotely connect with the Windows based Netraid assistant utility on a remote pc (using tcp/ip) to your server and add the new 'ready' drive to your existing raid 5 array just like it works native on a Windows server.

It's been a while but this is about how it should work, even without bringing the server down.
