aspi error
Hi
I am using benchmark dlt1 with LH6000r.Two nos of dlt's are cascaded and connected to the server.Backup is taken using SAP.Os NT server 4.0.Dlts are interfaced to the server thro' adaptec 2940uw scsi card.
Sometimes while the backup is running backup aborts withthte following oon any of the two tape drives.
"ASPI manager intialization error.Unable to take backup using nt tape support.Backup aborted due to i/o device error."
Correspondilngley these are logged in to Eventviewer.
"Devive/scsi port3 didn't respond within the tmeout period."
"Driver detected a controller error on devie/scsiport3."
I tried changing the card, terminator and cable also driver.dlts are the only devices connected to the scsi card.
The problem occurs less frequently.I used to remove the cable and connect it back. Then it starts working.
Can any body help me regarding this ?
thanks and regards
renjith

Re: aspi error
It looks like you might be having a SCSI configuration problem.
The DLT1 drives have a Low voltage differential SCSI interface (LVD) and your SCSI card has a Single ended interface (SE). The 2 can work together just fine provided that the cabling and termination is in order. if you changed that allready, you may want to consider using a SE terminator instead of a 'multimode' terminator. I have seen good results with that.
Secondly, if possible, try a LVD scsi card like the 2940U2W or other equivalents. It may just boost your performance as well.
good luck.
