Capacity Expansion
Hi all,
I have a HP Netserver LH 3000 with 3 18GB hard disks installed, all 3 hard disks are on the same array and I have configured raid 5 forming a single Logical drive of 36GB. Vertual sizeing is disabled. I have Installed windows NT 4.0 on this server and this is my PDC. Now I want to add 2 more 18GB hard disks in order to get more free disk space. How can I extend the existing Logical drive without disturbing the existing setup.

Re: Capacity Expansion
hi
the process is quite simple, you have to ad a hdd at the raid and expand it, you will preserve your data.
anyway perform a full backup for your protection
here you can found some info

Re: Capacity Expansion
There are two possible methods: you can create new logical drive from this two disks, or expand existing raid5. In both cases your existing data will not be lost (backup of existing data before any action is of course recommended). The best way is to use NetRaid Assistent because everything can be done online. You only have to restart server at the end to make NT te recognise newly created disk space. If you have not already installed NetRaid Assistent install it from NetServer Navigator or download newest version from HP site. If you want to make new logical drive from two new drives start configuration wizard, select drives, new logical disk configuration and finish it. If you want to expand existing raid5 logical drive select it, select two new physical drives (marked ready in disk window) and go to logical drive, expand capacity menu item. During expand process logical drive will be rebuilt. If you want you may change rebuid rate to speed up the process. When rebuilding is finished (or initialisation if you created new drive) exit netraid assistent and restart your server. (Setup of virtual capacity does not affect ability to expand existing RAID. It only gives an oportunity for NT to recognise newly created space without restart but requires very carefull planning.)
