Does any software corrupt CMOS settings?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any instances where software such as NetIQ or Toptools can play around with the CMOS?

Recently, our LXr Pro netservers which run our Metaframe farm have been failing at reboot. POST error 198 (believed to be CMOS checksum error) and on reboot post 0240. At post 0240 boot, it advises to something along the lines of press ESC to boot or run ECU (EISA Config Utility).

We've tried everything, but cannot find the guilty party. It only fails randomly, so we are finding hard to pinpoint the exact problem.

Any info gratefully accepted!

Andy

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Are you running the latest BIOS and ECU? Find them here:

Re: Does any software corrupt CMOS settings?

Andy,

Your server is definately getting older.. Do you have a new battery in there? Along with Theo's suggestion of reflashing the bios also try to clear the CMOS with the config valid switch before flashing the BIOS. Here is some more info on the BIOS: http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/mbsys/biosCorrupted-c.html

hi
Greg is right, usualy in these server, a low battery generate a CMOS checksum error, so replace the battery and/or add a bigger one

to solve the error you need to run the ECU, "view-add-delete details" and "exit and save"

bye
