E60 and PC133 memory

Dear Forum,

I am running a NetServer E60 with dual Pentium II 550 processors.

The system works fine with an SDRAM DIMM of 128MB PC100 memory but will not boot with a new SDRAM DIMM of 512MB PC133 memory (CAS3). The fans go, the hard disk powers up but the screen remains blank.

Is there any problem with either PC133 memory or using 512 MB in one DIMM for the E60?

I'd be grateful for any replies as I do not have any other PC133 DIMMS to test.

Cheers from Chaz

Re: E60 and PC133 memory

Hello,

What is the chipset of your E60 server ? It might not support RAM with frequencies over 100 MHz.

At home, I have a PC (PII 400 with 440 BX chipset). I tried a PC 133 RAM, but it failed at boot too. PC 66 and PC 100 work well.

Good luck.

Re: E60 and PC133 memory

The E60 system board does not support over 256MB DIMMs. Also, the FSB of the system is 100MHz, so putting 133MHz memory is only going to make the memory run at 100MHz.
