I'm currently dealing with the same problem and would like to update the firmware as suggested but the link to the upgraded BIOS is not working. I've searched for hours but cannot locate it. Please help!
Also, how do you get a new copy of "NetServer Navigator"? It appears it can't be ordered so can it be downloaded from the web? If so, can it be done using a regular pc?
Thanks!
Greg

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
1. The HP Navigator CDs are no longer available for sale from HP. If there is something specific you need which is not available on the HP web site, email Netserver support at:
nacmsupport@hp.com (include HP product name in the subject line to prevent delays in routing)
2. There is also a MMC-only firmware update which is sometimes needed to resolve a POST 0080 and/or 0090 error. Again, email Netserver support for this file.
All suggestions and comments are welcome. Thanks!

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
NOT EVEN AS SPARE PARTS ?
I checked the parts direct site and at least a navigator cd is listed as LH4 spare part there. Didn't try to buy one; already have one AND KEEP IT...

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
Also, I managed to find an old Navigator cd (version G.01.65). Can you tell me if I can still use it to do the firmware update? My understanding is that I need to create an "update disk" so it should still work... right?

I've got a Navigator cd M.04.05 here which says that it supports LH4.

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
I took another look at the G.01.65 Navigator cd and it doesn't say it's for LH4 but it does say it supports LHII and LH Pro. Will this still work? If not, what should I do?
Thanks.

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
LH II and LH Pro are older systems (and quite different).
Most of the stuff which is on the Navigator cd is also on the web (firmware updates, OS drivers, configuration and diagnostic tools).
The Navigator cd just makes it easier.

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
Can I download the individual "NetServer Utilities" for the LH4 from the web? (ie.
the "System BIOS Update Utility")

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
Sorry to be difficult, but the LH4 manual I downloaded said the NetServer Utilities were: Diskette Library, Event Log Reporting, Print or View Information and finally, system bios update. Since I've never done a firmware upgrade, I'm only going by what I've read in this manual.

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
What I mean is, my understanding was that I needed to download this "BIOS" file and save it to disk. Then, seperately run the "system bios update utility" which would then take this newly downloaded file and apply it to the motherboard.
Are you suggesting that this download file is BOTH the updated bios AND the utility which installs it?
Thanks.

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
So I store this update file on a floppy disk. I then copy it to a server hard drive. I then place a new diskette in the drive and execute this file from the hard drive. Finally, I restart the server and boot from the new floppy. I assume at that point it will be either menu driven or it will automatically update the firmware.
Correct?

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
I have to deal with this issue almost every day. More often than not, just doing the BIOS update does not resolve the 0080-51 error. Assuming this is an LH4, complete the following procedures:
Step #1:
Download the latest BIOS revision from the following link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software1/ns1783/ns1783en/lh4_bios36_fw45_en.exe
When you run the application it will ask you for one formatted floppy and ask you to specify the drive letter of the floppy drive.
Step #2
Boot from the floppy created in step #1 and choose option 1 to begin the flash update.
Step #3
Press
Step #4
Boot the server from a DOS Boot floppy. If you do not have access to one, you can download an image from http://www.24by7.ca/files/boot98se.exe
*Note: this file and website are not affiliated with Hewlett Packard and using it will be at your own risk.
Step #5
From a DOS Prompt, replace the BIOS update floppy and execute the following command:
A:\> flashmmc lh4ra_us.bin
*Note: there is no interactive screen; the update takes place in the background. Wait for a prompt to reappear.
Step #6
When the prompt returns, execute the following command:
A:\> sdredit -w -f list_lh4.sdr
*Note: Unlike the previous step, this one is interactive and you will see activity.
Step #7
Repeat steps #2 & 3.
If, while executing the MMC Flash, you get the message that the file is too big to fit on this flash device, then the power management board needs to be replaced.
Hope this helps.

Re: Error message :- "0080-51: Netserver Management Controller SelfTest Failure"
In support of Sean's post, I have a pretty good method of creating a MS-DOS boot disk. Also, I don't think Sean mentioned it but the disk has to be MS-DOS 6.22.
Once you have downloaded and created the BIOS flash diskette, run the program again and creat ANOTHER one.
Now, go into this 2nd flash disk and delete every file but io.sys, command.com and dos.sys (You will need view hidden files ON for this). Now you should have a DOS 6.22 bootable diskettes. Now just boot to it, and continue on with Sean's steps.
