expand array with netraid 1m, W2k

I have an LC2000 Netserver and I want to add storage space to it. It has a netraid 1m card configured with Raid 5, the new drives are not the same size as the origional drives. I am using Windows 2000, my goal is to add the drives without having to restore from backup. Can I add to the existing array or do I need to create a new array? Can I create the new array on the same controller?

John,

You say your new hdd's are not the same size as your original hdds. Are they larger or smaller? You can't add smaller hdds to the array and larger hdds will only have the capacity of the smallest drives in the same array. If your current raid 5 three 9gb hdds and you add two 18gb hdds you'll only get 9gb out of the 18gb. You would probably be better off adding them as a second logical drive. You can do that in netraid assistant without even downing the server.

To add the array in the NOS add the hdds to the cage then go into netraid assistant. Then new configuration to create a new seperate array with the larger hdds. Or from the main menu phyisical view highlight the two new hdds and go to Logical drive->Change Config-> Add Capacity.

If you don't have netraid assistant loaded you can download it here... http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix51915.html ** Utility MS Windows 2000
