front display on lh4 - linux support

hi there,

i was wondering if the front display has linux support? i have gentoo linux installed on my lh4, but the display still thinks w2k server is installed. is there a driver or something i can also set up so that it shows the chassis code?

thanks in advance

Re: front display on lh4 - linux support

Hello,

I am running a LH4R with slackware linux and I have not seen any application for Linux that can change the display.
The displayed text is configurable with a utility running under DOS. At the moment I do not know the name of the utility but you find it in the software/driver support section on HPs main site.
I think it would be possible to change the text with an IPMI command. But there is no information about the IPMI sensor ids with which you may change the display text.
Another problem is, that the BMC ipmi driver is not yet integrated into the actual linux kernel, AFAIK. The developer of the bmcsensors package is working on it.
